The Summer Beat-August News and Highlights
August 2016

Dear Parents,
The summer is in full swing. We hope that everyone is enjoying the warm sunny days that summer brings. We are definitely taking advantage of the outdoors and all of the educational opportunities that come with it. In celebration of summer, we have been enjoying super splash days on Mon. & Wed. with water play, tables and walls. We are enjoying our nature walks and gardening with the children. We looked for flowers growing, trees blossoming, birds and bugs zipping around. We have been springing into science all summer long with wild and wacky science facts and experiments on a weekly basis.

Our weekly trips are part of our Nature and Environmental sciences program. They encompass a world of adventure and opportunity in a very real and concrete way, to excite our children about science. We look forward to seeing the children excited about their discoveries to summer and science.

Your child has been participating in Kids Cuisine classes each week. We have made several delicious treats during our camp program and After-School. They had the opportunity to explore the joy of nutrition and healthy food choices. Cooking with kids is a wonderful adventure; it is a hands on interactive experience for all participants. Please download the Kids Cuisine Flyer for more information.

The children are participating in fun and challenging indoor & outdoor activities such as engineering, disecting, architectural design and building, critical thinking board games such as chess/checkers. In addition to theme-related activities & Wacky Workshops, your child has also enjoyed all ‘close encounters of the natural kind’, as described in our nature and environmental sciences program, including hikes and walks through the farm at Howell Living History Farm, and now our most recent was to Terhune’s orchard. They have also participated in outdoor skill building, insect safaris, and nature hunt explorations and digging for dinosaur bones!

In wood shop, our next project will be to paint and build locomotive transportation objects such as airplanes, helicopters, race cars, or sailboats. To change up our music program, we have been doing various dances around the world with Ms. Maria and our cardio program will focus on team building and sportsmanship skills in softball, soccer, volleyball, kickball, basketball, and organized activities such as bowling, relays, and horseshoe toss.

Finally, as summer is wrapping up we would like to invite all of our families and children to join us on our last trip scheduled to Jenkinson’s Aquarium. The permission slip form for this trip is attached to the bottom of this letter. Please download the attachment. It will be the culmination of our week’s study and theme “Under the Sea”. Lets celebrate the end of a great summer together. All parents and families are invited for this wonderful occasion and event. Please let us know if you will be attending.

Your child has been working very hard! Check out our private Facebook page to see them in action. We have uploaded many albums throughout the summer of the activities your child has participated in! Join us on Facebook to check it out!

Thank you!
